Metalheads are simple but  complex at the same time. They might memorize all the words of Sabaton’s endless WW2 lyrics but they hate when someone talk about Politics. Why mediate when you can ride with a tank? Seriously enough, many of the fans think we should just stick to music and to what gives context to our music. So if I write about Vampires and Fullmoons, I should stick to it; if you sing about beer and pirate rides, good luck in trying something else.

The fact is a lot of bands do not mind to stay in one place, one dimension. I believe that’s their right and prerogative, likewise for their fans. Others like to move around and put their heads out of the metal shell. This discussion worn out years ago, we know who won and we know the value of an intellectual resistance to a more meat and potatoes, let’s fight, drink, be vikings and soldiers Metal. The bad thing is fans acting as judges of the extent that  a band can pull. Not good. Some time ago, #Anaal Nakkarth got scolded simply by making a heartfelt, human, political, emotional rapport about Syria. It seems that right wing comments are still the ones people on the Internet prefer to use and the whole thing is just scary when people get  knee jerk reactions from their own fans who want them tame and quiet even if you talk about group as AN which are neither quiet or tame.

A lot of North-American fans, are simply confusing statements against their gun policy, for example, with an argument against America and their way of life. It’s not. It’s pure numbers, more than numbers, it’s people who got shot. Black and white matter. Having pistols and assault guns around is a instead a way of death and the protection argument  mean little else than murder and retribution. I am even afraid to say that there is a lot to be done internally in the US and their people should come first, instead of their machinations in external policy which hurt everyone for little or no reason. My expectations with Trump are that he gets us on the bridge of a war and his electors like that idea, a war to fight, another war to  fight when especially the USA could be dealing with their own problems, race, guns, economy, things are not candid over there.

Personally, I don’t mind the scolding. I am not afraid to state that  the electorate that put Trump in office might be sick in the mind. He is no Reagan, if you are trying to go for that. He doesn’t have his office and staff and unless he gets a bullet (like Reagan) people will always demonstrate against him, his chauvinism, his racism, his stupid understanding of the world, his misogynist  self , his sickening election and rule.

As for our little world of Metal, let’s see what happens to freedom of speech and capacity of telling our fans we do not live in the castle we talk about, or in the vessel braver men than us used to find new land, or in the tank, in the ship, in the spaceship. We are here and yes Trump puts America to shame and let’s see if he turns America into something else than a great joke at his own image. Let’s hope not for the sake of our fans and friends over there and for people who cried bitter tears when this impossible candidate won, putting democracy , political parties, politologues in his pocket, and making the world a worst place to life, from his first day in the office.

As far as the fans who bash bands because they have a voice which resonates more than fake, high-pitched and distorted non-sense, here’s a little souvenir from the past.  The resemblances are incredible. One of the best political lyrics ever by written by a band who would make the White House and Trump flat to the ground. They are called #Bulldozer, old school band from Italy and I am not sure if you heard about them before. You should have as they anticipated America’s sad presidency future with this one. Just replace some words and names where you find fitting.

Ilona has been elected:

Ilona the porn star

Had been elected
The greatest surprise
Of our last suffrage
Thousands of maniacs
Voted for her
Cause they were disappointed
After brothel repression

Tonight! The witch has been recalled
Returned to shock the world
Disgrace! There was no control
Italy “the shame”!

She replied: “I’m not a shame”
“If you compare me with other”
“Parliament’s members who are known to be”
“Thieves and merchants of death”
“Criminals”
“Hypocritists”
“Drug sellers”
She’ll never die

All TV news
From Japan to the States
Reported the event
Never happened before
Magazines and papers
Did not deny
Two of three pages
To the scandal of the year

Tonight! The witch has been recalled
Returned to shock the world
Disgrace! There was no control
Italy “the shame”!

Now she sells thousands copies
Of her last productions (the last with John Holmes)
It seems she doesn’t care
About the money she get
She’s a witch
She’s a star
She’s the big
She’ll never die

She has got a lot of enemies
Like all the witches
Burnt and persecuted
In the past
She’s alive
Got several names
But the spirit inside
Is always the same

Tonight! The witch has been recalled
Returned to shock the world
Disgrace! There was no control
Italy “the shame”!

The man living with her
Died of AIDS just few weeks ago
She’s persecuted by fate
She never surrenders, she loves sex
No protect
No prevent
No plastic
She’ll never die

Enlighten me dear 😉 what’s smart about him? using illegal polish immigrant workforce to build his tower? that kind of smart?

    1. That’s more about lack of ethics or moral, not about being smart.
Actually I’m not into politics at all and do not have any strong points in support of Trump, but I would give him a chance: in our self-destructing world his unpopular measures may work.

You are not into politics, but what you mention is realpolitik. I agree to disagree. I don’t think it will work at all. Peace.

I am glad that you *do* share your opinions on such matters, Fernando. As a US Citizen myself, I completely agree with all the above points. The only thing that I think is worth mentioning further, is that trump lost the popular vote by almost three million. This man did every outlandish thing that he could possibly do (twitter outbursts, sexual assault, racist comments), lost the popular vote, and it still DIDNT MATTER. We are horrified and scared.

Yes, that’s a point I knew and just mentioned on another interview. Nothing was strong enough to stop populism and to blank what this man really means. I share your horror.

Trump, his supporters and the metal fans you write about share a common trait; they are all obsessed with their fantasy view of the world. Truth is too uncomfortable for them so they hide in a fantasy. For the Trumpers it’s basking in the fantasy of Manifest Destiny. I don’t see much difference between them and the “trve kvlt” metal heads who get upset when they find out their favorite bands don’t live in a forest drinking virgin blood.

Your analogy is dead right. I for one was caught off guard twice: by Trump’s election; and by the benefit of doubt more people than I thought (and this is just a micro sample) are giving him, regardless of…everything. Real life will catch up and there will be no gold at the end of the rainbow. thanks for your comment.thanks everyone as a matter of fact.

I don’t know if you agree with me, Fernando, but the world seems to be in a situation very similar to that preceding WWI. As such, I believe we are in the brink of a new aeon (to put things in a sort of poetically esoteric perspective) in which old paradigms will be questioned and put aside. The problem is we do not quite know what will come thereafter, nor the methods chosen to put this new era in motion.
Trump – and others like him – might have a “positive” role in that (as agents of nigredo, so to speak), but the process in itself may be a bit too traumatic for mankind. As you know, Portugal’s history is full of those breaking points, for example, and the consequences never ceased to be harsh.
Saudações lusófonas from this side of the Atlantic!

Hi Luciano. Thanks for your comment. I see your point. Hegel saw it too when he coined the expression of “The Cunning of Reason.” He used it to portray the stories of famous Historical characters who, individually, made a difference in troubled times with personas and methods which were new, sometimes debatable, but that brought change at more than a local, national level.Napoleon, for example. I don’t think that applies to Trump, Berlusconi, Tiririca, Lukashenko, Duterte, Chavez/Maduro, and a long infamous list. Their drive is different and Trump administration already set the way with the war against press, the complete and inelegant disregard for #Womenmarch and their promise of a missile shield and the moving of the US Israelite embassy to Jerusalem. Portugal had ruptures (Delgado, Cunhal, Soares, Eanes) but they all contributed to prosperity even if with political flaws. Um abraço!
