Let me welcome you to that special place

where EVERYONE is YOURS
and YOU are EVERYONE’S

Let me welcome you to that special place
where EVERYONE is SANE
Let me welcome you to that special place
where YOU are EVERYONE’S

Let me welcome you to that special place
where you read SHARING instead of HAVING
where you always see TWO when you see ONE
Let me welcome you to that special place
where YOU are EVERYONE

Let us spare you the GRIEF
that to BE YOURSELF might bring
You are here to be AMUSED maybe confused or misused
to be a living METAPHOR of this MODERN, great swing
Just DRINK and EAT and do not FORGET
to play always SAFE INTERCOURSE

(in this human sized and human shaped zoo)

WE do not mind to PROGRESS alone
WE do not mind to take it on, to take CONTROL
WE do not mind to be YOU.

EUROTICA
where I wanna be
where I wanna live

Eurotica, Sin/Pecado, 1998
I wrote this back in 1998 at the height of my euro-ceptcism. It’s not that I don’t understand or sponsor the ideia of a federalist Europe, as thought by, for example, Immanuel Kant. But politics, interests, territories that were hard to win and had to be given away, fishing and agriculture cota turned that philosophical utopia into a nightmare. Small countries such as Portugal, Greece have always to consider an independent route. That is not fascism, maybe survival. Also Europe is made of terrible exceptions. There is a special artist tax waiting for you at the end of your fee, in the land of free circulation of people and goods. If you want to go out to good old Deutschland and buy a Mercedes do a cheaper price than the car deals in Portugal, good luck as there is a special tax lurking in Portugal for this “import” in the land of free circulation of people and goods. In my opinion the UK never felt European or a part of this project. They are and they have their own thing going. Europe was a commodity they use (like any of us) and abused and now it became too pricy for them. Our turn will come. If you ask me if my life got more difficult in what regards traveling and having business relationships with England, yes it will but I can’t think of myself here alone. Jokingly I told a friend today: Do you know why England got out of EC? Because they can.

Fernando, I understand what you say about fascism and survival, but don’t you think this situation is an open door, an invitation for some “dangerous minds” poison desperate and destitute hearts? From what I know about History, every time Europe is not “glued” (even with its flaws), the outcome is a gruesome one. Looking back at History, in fact, I think the world is too close to a scenario very similar to that preceding World War I. Would the “Lords of War” be preparing to sing their victory hymns?
